What is teak?
Teak is commonly referred to as the ‘King of Woods’ and is sourced from the Tectona grandis tree. Teak is a dense, close-grained type of hardwood, holden in colour with a smooth texture. As it’s high in natural oils and rubber, it is incredibly strong and durable, with high resistance to extreme weather conditions and rotting.
How to measure for teak garden furniture
Due to the durable nature of teak, it’s no surprise that it’s the top choice for those looking to invest in quality garden furniture. Before choosing the teak furniture you want for your space, it is important to take the time to properly measure both the furniture and the area that it’s going into. All of our teak products are listed with the depth, height and width of each piece, so it’s key to make a note of these measurements.
Using a roll of masking tape, map out the furniture in your garden, this will give a much more accurate representation of the size than simply noting the square footage of your space. Once you have your teak garden furniture marked out, take the time to walk around and assess whether the setup works for you.
Things to consider;
- Can dining chairs be safely pulled in and out
- Is there space to walk around the furniture
- Does the furniture block off any important pathways or exits
If you are looking for teak furniture that’s designed to be space-saving, why not consider an extendable teak dining table or our teak stacking chairs - perfect for compact outdoor spaces where quality cannot be compromised.
How to care for teak furniture
One of the main benefits of teak is that it’s incredibly easy to maintain. As it is such a dense hardwood, it is capable of withstanding even the most extreme weather conditions. Fresh teak is a golden-brown colour which naturally ages to a beautiful silver-grey shade over time. To prevent teak from ageing, you simply need to sand your furniture down once a year and apply a wood treatment. For detailed teak care instructions, take a look at our teak maintenance guide.
If you are happy for your teak to mature, it’s perfectly fine to leave it alone.
How to store teak garden furniture
Teak garden furniture can be left outside all year round as the natural oils in the wood make it incredibly durable. If you do want to store your teak to protect the colour or to save space in the garden during the winter, we recommend storing it in a garage, shed or outhouse.
What do the different teak grades mean?
When shopping for teak garden furniture you may come across a reference to ‘grades’. This simply determines the quality of the teak you are buying. There are three grades of teak available, however, those looking for top-quality teak should always opt for Grade A. All of the teak furniture at Luxus is manufactured from Grade A teak, which is knot free with a dense close curved grain. Grade A teak has an even colour and doesn't come with a risk of splitting or shrinking over time. At Luxus, our teak is also fully sustainable, plus all of our teak furniture is checked and issued with SVLK certification to confirm that it has been legally harvested and can be sold in any EU country.

How to choose a quality teak manufacturer
At Luxus, we have made it our mission to provide customers with only the best quality Grade A sustainable teak. We insist on checking every piece of teak that leaves our warehouse and offer full transparency on our sourcing and manufacturing processes. If you are looking to invest in teak garden furniture, here is how to spot a reputable teak retailer.
- Do they state that they offer Grade A teak?
- Is the teak sustainably sourced?
- Does the price seem too good to be true? Quality teak is an investment but will last a lifetime
- Can you read impartial reviews from previous customers?
- Upon delivery, check that the joints are well-fitted, close-fitting and neat.
- Does the teak feel solid? inferior teak designs may compromise on thinner legs/arms
